Here we will talk about 10 unknown freedom fighters who have disappeared from the pages of history.
Matangini Hazra
Matangini Hazra was born on 19 October 1870. He was a very bold and fearless Indian revolutionary from the very beginning, who participated in the Indian freedom movement. He participated in several Indian independence movements, the main ones being the Quit India Movement and the Non-Cooperation Movement. During a procession, she was shot dead by the British police in front of the Tamluk Police Station on 29 September 1942. Even after being shot three times, he continued to march despite being injured with the Indian flag. Even then they kept shouting. ‘Vande Mataram’. He attained virgati by waving the tricolor in his hand. How can we Indians forget the sacrifice of such a great soul? He died with the flag of Indian National Congress but he will live forever in the hearts of the people and for the honor of India, the nation will never forget his sacrifice. Hazrani was the first woman statue of a freedom fighter installed in Kolkata in 1977. This idol is built on the exact spot where he was brutally murdered by the Tamluks.
Senapati Bapati
Pandurang Mahadev Bapat popularly known as Senapati Bapat was born on 12 November 1880. Senapati Bapat has contributed significantly to the Indian freedom movement. He was given the title of Senapati as the leader of the Mulshi Satyagraha. From 1921, Senapati led a three-year protest with farmers against the construction of the Mulshi Dam by the Tata Company. On 15 August 1947, Senapati Bapat was given the honor of hoisting the Indian flag over the city of Pune for the first time. He died on 28 November 1967.
Tirot Singh
People also know him as U Tirot Singh, his bravery and true loyalty to country and land is an example for the people of the country. He was the leader of the Khasi (a hill tribe). He was considered a hero in his clan as he died fighting the British while trying to capture the Khasi hills.
Potty Sriramulu
Potti Sriramulu was born on 16 March 1901. He was a fearless and righteous patriot and an Indian revolutionary. He was a favorite follower of Mahatma Gandhi. He worked for many humanitarian causes supporting the Dalit community. Noting Potti Sriramulu’s humanitarian causes and devotion to the nation, Gandhi said: “If I had eleven more followers like Sriramulu, I would have won the freedom struggle in just one year” Potti Sriramulu died on 15 December 1952.
Tirupur Kumarani
Tirupur Kumarani was born on 4 October 1904. He was a great Indian freedom revolutionary. He participated in many Indian independence movements. Along with this, Kumarani founded Deshbandhu Yuva Sangh. (He was brutally killed by the British during a protest march against the colonial (British) government on January 11, 1932 for holding the flag of the banned Indian nationalists. Even after being shot, he did not give up his flag.
Tara Rani Srivastava
In a small town in Bihar, she led a freedom procession with her husband in front of the Siwan police station. The British government fired on them. Even though he was shot, he bandaged his wound without caring and continued to walk. Unfortunately he was dead by the time he returned from profuse bleeding. With his strong will power, he raised the flag and fought against the British till his last breath.
Velu Nachiar
Velu Nachiyar, the 18th century Indian queen of Sivaganga, was skilled in the art of war from childhood. Maharani was the first queen to fight a war against the British. When her husband Muthuvaduganathapariya Udayatevar was brutally killed by British soldiers. Since then the Velu Nachiyars rose up against the British rule and joined the war. After defeating the British, he lived with his daughter at Virupachi under the protection of Palaikar Kopala Naykar for eight years. He formed a women’s army named “Udayal” in honor of his adopted daughter “Udayal”. The exact date of Velu Nachiar’s death is not known till date (it was around 1790).
Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay
Mata Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay was born on 3rd April 1903. Kamaladevi emerged as a great freedom fighter and social reformer. He is known for his brilliant and commendable contribution to the Indian freedom movement. She was the first woman to contest for an MLA seat in India or the first woman to be arrested by British rule. She played an important role in not only independence but also in uplifting the socio-economic status of Indian women. Unfortunately, he died suddenly on 29 October 1988.
The trio of Badal, Binay, Dinesh
India will never forget the invaluable contribution of these three soldiers. Benay Basu, Badal Gupta and Dinesh Gupta were 22, 18 and 19 years respectively, at that time the tyranny of the British government was at its peak and the native sons of the country were ready to lay down their lives for the freedom of the country. With a secret plan they dressed in European clothes and entered the Writers Building. His target was Colonel NS Simpson, the most tyrannical and brutal Inspector General of Police of the time. The trio managed to kill him but were outnumbered as planned. Benoy gave his life by swallowing a cyanide pill, while Badal and Dinesh shot themselves to avoid capture and died for the country. Everyone wanted to see the country free but those who sacrifice their lives for freedom and their country are the true patriots and patriots.
Princess Gupta
Both Rajkumari Gupta and her husband together played a major role in the freedom struggle. Her husband worked with Mahatma Gandhi and Chandrasekhar Azad for independence. The princess played an important role in the Kakori case. He was in charge of supplying revolvers to the people involved in this operation. Raj Kumari used to hide weapons in her undergarment and accompany her 3-year-old son to deliver them.
Alluri Sitaram Raju
Sitaram Raju led the ill-fated “Rampa Rebellion” in 1922-1924 with the support of his other local tribal heroes. His comrades fought hard with the British and achieved heroism. For his bravery, he was given the nickname ‘Manyam Veerudu’ (meaning ‘Hero of the Jungle’).
Khudiram Bose
Khudiram Bose gave his life at a very young age for the freedom of the country. He was one of the youngest revolutionaries of the Indian independence movement. He was only 18 years, 8 months and 8 days old when he was hanged.
