Animal beats Tiger 3 but stays behind Pathaan and Jawan

Ranbir Kapoor and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animalhas opened the floodgates at the box office, despite being 3 hours and 21 minutes long and getting A certificate from the censors. The film is expected to clock in about Rs 61 crores across languages with Hindi leading from the front with Rs 50.5 crore and around Rs 10 crore coming in from Telugu and rest from the remaining languages, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. It also happens to be the biggest box office opening for Ranbir Kapoor by a huge margin, as before Animal, Ranbir’s biggest day one opening was Rs 36 crore for his film Brahmastra; Part One-Shiva.

‘Animal’ hits theatres; netizens give thumbs up to Ranbir Kapoor-starrer, calls it a ‘Blockbuster’

The response to the film has been so phenomenal that it has beaten Salman Khan’s latest release Tiger 3 for its day 1 collection which had called Rs 44.50 crore, with Rs 43 crore coming from Hindi. With an opening like this one can easily honour Ranbir Kapoor with the title of Superstar but the man falls short to Superstar Shah Rukh Khan who is having a dream run at the box office right now. Shah Rukh Khan had two releases this year and both have delivered more than Rs 1000 crores at the box office. While Pathan made Rs 57 crores on day 1 with Rs 55 crore coming from Hindi, Jawan made Rs 75 crore on day 1 with Rs 65 crore coming from Hindi.
The trade would expect the film to hit a higher number for day 2 but it would be interesting to see how the film fares given the critics and a certain section of the audience aren’t very happy with the film. Besides Ranbir, Animal also stars Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol,Rashmika Mandana and Triptych Winter.

Aiming to seal series
India’s young bowling unit aims to improve its death overs performance and take advantage of Glenn Maxwell’s absence in the fourth T20 against Australia. The team may make a minor change in the lineup, considering Deepak Chahar’s inclusion for his ability to move the new ball and Mukesh Kumar’s expertise in death overs. The absence of marauding Maxwell, Steve Smith, and Adam Zampa could work in India’s favor. The Indian bowlers will face players like Tim David, Josh Phillippe, and Ben McDermott, while having to contend with Travis Head and Matthew Wade. Dew could play a role in the match, and the team winning the toss is likely to opt to bat second. The Australian squad has already received reinforcements for the penultimate match, and Indias batting has been strong with players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan, Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is coming off a blazing 123 off 57 balls. Jason Behrendorff, Kane Richardson, and Tanveer Sangha may face challenges once again.

India vs Australia, 4th T20I: India seal the deal with spin | Cricket News

RAIPUR: Life hasn’t been kind to Axar Patel in recent times. First, a quadricep injury ruled the left-arm spinner out of the ODI World Cup. On Thursday, he received another jolt when was dropped from India’s T20 squad for the upcoming series in South Africa.
Within 24 hours of that snub, Axar proved a point, taking 3/16 in four overs — including the prize wicket of Travis Head — to star in India’s series-clinching 20-run win in the fourth T20I against Australia here on Friday. On a pitch where the ball was turning a bit under lights, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi too delivered a good performance, taking 1-17 in his four overs.
Bishnoi first took out Josh Philippe’s off-stump as the batter tried to sweep a typically fast, flat delivery. Axar then got into the act in the fifth over as Head miscued a slogsweep, only for Mukesh Kumar to complete the catch at short third-man. Axar then castled Aaron Hardie (8) and Ben McDermott (19) as both batsmen tried in vain to smash him out of the ground.
Cheered on by a packed house of around 50,000 spectators witnessing the maiden T20I at this venue, India eventually restricted Australia to 154/7 in 20 overs chasing 175 to take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series. The fifth and final T20I in Bangalore on Sunday is now of academic interest.

Report-gfx-1

Asked to take first strike by the Aussies, India lost both their captain, Suryakumar Yadav (1) and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer (8) cheaply, but Rinku Singh (46; 29b, 4×4, 2×6), perhaps celebrating his maiden ODI call-up for the South Africa tour, and the impressivelooking ’keeper-bat Jitesh Sharma (35; 19b, 1×4, 3×6), playing his first game of the series, took India to 174/9.
Iyer holed out to long-on off leggie Tanveer Sangha while ‘SKY’ became Dwarshuis’ maiden T20I wicket, reducing India to 63/3 in the ninth over.
In walked Rinku. Ultra-confident in his strokeplay, the left-hander unleashed a perfect switch hit for six off Green in the 12th over before smoking Dwarshuis for the biggest six of the series — the shot of the match — over wide long on in the 13th over.

Looking set to hit second gear, Ruturaj Gaikwad perished to Sangha, edging off an inside-out stroke, but Jitesh-one of the four changes to India’s XI for the night and replacing Ishan Kishan, showed his mettle, smacking Green for two sixes in the 15th over. Later, he thrashed Hardie for a six to fine leg, adding 56 in just 32 balls with Rinku for the fifth wicket as the duo ensured India have a competitive total on board. Playing for India for the first time since the Asian Games in China in October, Jitesh justified the decision to rest regular ‘keeper-bat Ishan Kishan and play him tonight.
Having been hammered for 200- plus total each time in this series, Australia did well to bounce back in the final two overs, giving away just 13 runs while taking five wickets to spoil India’s final flourish.

Report-gfx-

Fighting back from the pasting he received at the hands of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rinku, seamer Ben Dwarshuis (3-40 in three overs) gave away just seven runs in the penultimate over, while picking the wickets of Jitesh and Axar Patel.
Steaming in to bowl the final over of the innings, left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff (2-32 in four overs) -the best quick on either side in this series -conceded just six runs, taking out Rinku lbw with a brilliant yorker, and then pocketing Deepak Chahar’s scalp too.
Earlier, India were off to a flyer as Jaiswal (37, 28b, 6×4, 1×6) looked to take down the second-strong Aussie bowling attack.

After failing to take a run off the first over of the match from seamer Aaron Hardie, the aggressive lefthander came into his own, taking three fours off Dwarshuis in the third over, and a four and six off debutant offspinner Chris Green in the fifth over, which went for 14.
Jaiswal’s blazing strokeplay saw India gallop to 50 in the Powerplay overs, before he fell while trying to pull off one stroke too many.

MADURAI: Anti-corruption agencies of DMK-governed Tamil Nadu and the Centre locked horns in Dindigul Friday when state vigilance officials arrested an ED officer for allegedly collecting a Rs 20lakh bribe from a government doctor by threatening to reopen an old case.
The officer, identified as Ankit Tiwari and attached to the ED’s Madurai office, was remanded by a court later in the evening.A statement by TN’s Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) said Tiwari had extorted crores from people and distributed it to other officials of ED in Madurai and Chennai. BMC: BMC must maintain all open spaces by itself: Minister |

Mumbai: In a second public meeting organised on the city’s much-controversial public open spaces policy on Friday, Mumbai guardian minister (suburbs) M P Lodha suggested that the BMC maintain all open spaces by itself.
BMC officials present at the meeting, however, said that there was a need for a policy, especially in case of playgrounds and recreational grounds which are under developed and have the potential of being developed to its full capacity with sophisticated cricket pitches or basket ball pitches being set up on them.
Deputy municipal commissioner Kishore Gandhi, in-charge of gardens department, said that they received around 100 suggestions/ objections to the policy. “We want to make it clear that the gardens which are already developed will not be given out on adoption basis. But those PG & RG where private entities can professionally develop the open space would be allowed to do so. The BMC will decide on whom to give out the open spaces for sporting activities once developed through an online system so that the process remains transparent,” said Gandhi. Lodha said that the BMC must ensure that a decision with regards to the policy be taken in the next 30 days considering that the issue has been pending since September this year.
Lodha also suggested that a separate decision be taken in case of the 26 gardens already adopted, but which are yet to be handed over to the BMC.

Malabar Hill Reservoir: Bmc Seeks Feedback From Public, Experts On Malabar Hill Reservoir Reconstruction |

Mumbai: As the fate of reconstruction of the BMC’s Malabar hill water reservoir hangs in balance, the civic body on Friday urged citizens and experts to offer their suggestions on the methodology to be adopted for its reconstruction for the consideration of an expert committee .
Those interested have been asked to email their suggestions at mhriit.suggestion@gmail.com.The public suggestions can be sent within 15 days from the date of publishing the email ID which is December 1,2023.
BMC said that the Malabar hill reservoir has been reliably serving as the lifeline of south Mumbai for the past 136 years. The reservoir was constructed in 1887 below the present-day Phiroz Shah Mehta Garden, popularly known as the Hanging Garden, and caters to the increasing water demand of south Mumbai.
“After about one-and-a- a-half centuries of dedicated service, the ageing infrastructure of Malabar hill reservoir bears signs of natural deterioration,” the BMC said in a statement. Substantial water leakage has become a matter of concern, so the BMC undertook an ambitious mission to reconstruct the reservoir, the statement said.
This reconstruction proposal affects 389 trees. However, as citizens and NGOs have expressed their concerns about cutting of trees and demanded to find an alternative solution, the BMC has constituted an expert committee comprising professors from IIT-Bombay, BMC officials and local experts to review the proposal of reconstruction of the reservoir. The Rs 698-crore plan to rebuild the reservoir was finalised after a structural audit exposed its weaknesses. The reservoir, located at one of the highest points in south Mumbai, is designed to distribute water by force of gravity. TOI in its September 25 edition reported how the Hanging Garden could be out of bounds for years once work begins on the reservoir.

BHUBANESWAR: Police on Friday arrested a fruit seller for allegedly stabbing to death a small eatery owner Grade Behera (35) in Chandaka area near here last month.
MithunJena (34) had stabbed Sasmita multiple times on November 6 evening around 100 metres from her stall at Gothapatna market as she refused to serve him extra curry with vada, the police said.He even asked his friends to watch the TV channels showing the breaking news of the murder. Sasmita succumbed to her injuries in hospital the next day. Police were clueless about the killer as nobody had spotted the crime being committed as it was dark.
“It was a blind case for us when we started the investigation. While being rushed to hospital, the injured woman too could not identify the attacker. Our special squad was assigned to assist Chandaka police in the murder investigation. After questioning several people, we got clues about Mithun, who confessed to committing the murder,” commissioner of police Saumendra Priyadarsi said.
DCP Prateek Singh said Jena, who owns a fruit shop about 1 km away from Sasmita’s stall, visited her shop on November 5 to have breakfast. While eating vada, Jena asked for curry several times, which annoyed her.

Police sources said Jena had called up the owner of the room where Sasmita was running her shop on rent. Jena reportedly complained to him against her and told him he would teach her a lesson.
“Jena and some of his friends consumed liquor on November 5 evening. He told his friends he would kill Sasmita. Jena asked his friends to watch TV to get the news of her murder. Smog shrouds parts of Mumbai as minimum temperature drops below 20 degree C

Various parts of Mumbai were covered in smog on Friday, causing a notable reduction in visibility. This occurred following the city’s recording of its initial sub-20 degree temperature of the season. IMD scientist Sunil Kamble explained that the smog was caused by calm easterly winds in the morning. Later in the day, the Air Quality Index (AQI) for the city was recorded at 116, categorizing it as moderate.
The forecast for Saturday is that AQI will persist in the moderate category. On Thursday, the minimum temperature reached 19.7 degrees, increasing to 21.3 degrees on Friday. Experts noted that this uptick in minimum temperatures was anticipated as the influence of the western disturbance diminished. On Friday, the Santacruz observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 21.3 degrees, surpassing the normal by 1.2 degrees. In comparison, Colaba reported a normal temperature of 22.5 degrees.
Track the pollution level in your city
Relative humidity levels were 85% at Colaba and 90% at Santacruz. Daytime temperatures recorded by Colaba and Santacruz were 30.2 degrees and 31.5 degrees. The IMD’s forecast for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar till December 5 suggests the prevalence of dry weather conditions. Unlike last year, this November experienced unseasonal rains, with the Colaba and Santacruz observatories recording 39.5mm and 8.2mm of rainfall.

Winter may be mild with less cold wave days: IMD

NEW DELHI: Expect a relatively mild winter this season with minimum temperatures likely to be generally above normal across India over the next three months, day conditions warmer than usual in much of the country and lower-than normal number of cold wave days in the north, the India Meteorological Department said on Friday.
The department’s winter forecast for the country is in line with expectations in an El Nino year, when winters in India are usually warmer than normal.
Releasing its outlook for the December-February period, IMD said above normal maximum temperatures are likely over most parts of the country except some areas in northwest and central India where normal to below normal temperatures are likely. These areas are Delhi, parts of south Haryana, west UP as well south and east Rajasthan, and many parts of MP, interior Maharashtra and Telangana.
Nights (minimum temperatures) are expected to be warmer than normal across the country, with significantly above-normal temperatures likely in most of the south and parts of east India, the depart ment said.
IMD said the season could see below-normal number of cold waves over north, northwest, central, east and northeast parts of country. In north India, cold wave and ‘cold day’ conditions are synonymous with extreme chill during the winter season.
IMD’s seasonal forecasts are meant to be indicative of the general trend during the period. In other words, while temperatures are expected to be above-normal on average during the season, extreme weather conditions are not entirely ruled out.
The department’s forecast for December was mostly the same as for the rest of the season, with minimum temperatures “most likely” to be above normal over the country and maximum temper atures likely to be above-normal over most parts except some areas of central India and north India. IMD said rainfall during December was “most likely” to be above normal over the northwest and adjoining areas of central and east India, and some areas of extreme south. Below-normal rain is expected over many parts of the northeast, north peninsular India and adjoining areas of central India.
Meanwhile, IMD said last month was the warmest November ever recorded in India in terms of mean temperatures, which were 1.09 degrees C higher than the long period average. Earlier, India had recorded its warmest months of August and September as well as the monsoon season in terms of mean temperatures.
