If you travel by train frequently, you will know a lot- people who reached the railway station with big suitcases, banged bags under the train seat and bags filled with bags and bags, suitcases and passengers in every corner. So far, the Railways has shown great generosity in this matter, it has never calculated every kilo like airlines. But sir, now the game is about to change! Railways is now preparing to fix the limit to carry goods in the train just like air port and flight.
Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information and Publicity in the Ministry of Railways, told our associate News18 that passengers will be asked to check their goods through electronic wing machines at railway stations and penalty will be imposed on those carrying more goods than the fixed limit.
According to a Business Today report, the first phase of the scheme will include stations like Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Kanpur and Aligarh Junction. If this arrangement works properly, it will be gradually applied to cities.
So, what are these new rules? How much stuff can you carry? And if the weight of your bag comes out more then how much fine you may have to pay? In this video, today we know the answers to all these important questions.
How much will be the limit to carry?
Technically, the rules related to luggage in Indian Railways are already present, but most of the passengers have rarely seen them to be implemented. Now, it’s about to change, and like the airport, the weight of your belongings will depend on which class you are traveling. Let’s see how much luggage limit will be in different classes.
First AC: Passengers can carry up to 70 kg of goods, as well as 15 kg discount. If you need more goods than this, then you can book 65 kg of additional goods in a parcel van.
Second AC: The limit of carrying goods in it is 50 kg, which has an additional discount of 10 kg. For more goods than this, you can book goods up to 30 kg in a parcel van.
Third AC/AC Chair Car: Passengers are allowed to carry 40 kg of weight in it, as well as 10 kg discount. Apart from this, you can book 30 kg in parcel van.
Sleeper class: The limit of free luggage is 40 kg, as well as a discount of 10 kg. With booking, you can carry up to 70 kg of goods in a parcel van.
Second class/general class: 35 kg of goods are allowed, with a discount of 10 kg. If needed, you can book 60 kg of goods in a parcel van.
How much will the bag size be?
The bag or your luggage size in the train is also up to a fixed limit. The size of trunk, suitcases and boxes should not exceed 100 cm x 60 cm x 25 cm. For passengers of AC 3-Tier and AC Chair Car, this limit is low, which is 55 cm x 45 cm x 22.5 cm. Larger goods should be sent by brake van, whose minimum charge is 30 rupees.
Children aged 5 to 12 also get luggage exemption, but half. That is, they cannot lift full like elders. And yes, the limit is not above 50 kg at all.
If large -sized or block -causing bags block the boarding area, they can be fined.
Railways clarified in a statement, “Luggage rules are already present. Officers have been instructed to ensure proper compliance, and also have standard instructions.”
What if you cross the luggage limit?
The story becomes interesting as soon as the free allowance is over, now your extra goods will be charged at 1.5 times the rate of normal booking. You will have to pay at least 30 rupees, and the count will also start with a distance of 50 kilometers and 10 kg.
Officials say that these rules are necessary for reducing crowds, comfortable travel of passengers and their safety, especially in holidays and festivals when coaches from train passengers are packed.
Good scooters, bicycles or such heavy goods do not come in the free list. They will have to be booked separately. Therefore, it is better to check the extra goods by checking the limit in advance, otherwise you may have to face many problems at the last moment.
