Air still severe: BS-3 petrol, BS-4 diesel cars banned | India News

NEW DELHI: As the capital’s air quality remained at the highly toxic “severe” category for the second straight day on Friday, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced closure of all primary classes from Saturday and prohibited outdoor activities for students of other classes till further orders.
Delhi transport department issued a notification banning petrol cars of up to BS-III emission standards as well as diesel vehicles up to BS-IV standards within Delhi till further notice. The announcement is expected to hit around 5 lakh cars. On Thursday, pollution watchdog, CAQM, had ordered barring all diesel four-wheelers other than the BS-VI ones.

The Delhi government imposed measures under stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (Grap) and introduced additional steps to control pollution as Delhi recorded a 24-hour AQI of 447 on Friday, staying deep in the “severe’ zone since Thursday (450). The AQI has been “severe” on three of the four days in November so far.
