4th T20I, India vs Australia: Will run glut continue in Raipur? | Cricket News

With Maxwell and Stoinis gone, hosts look to seal series as another run fest looms
RAIPUR: Brought to life by Glenn Maxwell’s brilliance, which has kept Australia alive, this most illtimed series will move into its fourth T20I contest at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium here on Friday night. The hosts, sitting on a 2-1 lead, will aim to wrap it up here itself.
The series, days after an emotionally draining World Cup final, has struggled for context and fan interest. To make it worse, with the winter setting in, dew has become a big enemy for the bowlers, while making the toss a decisive factor. Teams have found defending totals next to impossible.

1

In what has been a nightmarish series for the bowlers so far, five of the six innings have seen 200- plus scores, with Australia making 191-9 in 20 overs in the sixth.
Quizzed on why India’s bowling — their trump card in the World Cup — was looking brittle in this series, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi said, “Yes, our bowlers performed well in the World Cup. However, if you see, there’s a lot of difference in the wickets for the World Cup and here, where the matches have been high-scoring, and bowlers from both the teams have gone for runs. We’re trying to improve day by day, and will look to do better in the last two matches.”
Could the trend of high-scoring matches change at this venue, where in an ODI on January 21 this year India bowled out New Zealand for 108 in 34.3 overs? “It’s a good thing if the bowlers get at least something here,” said Bishnoi.

2

With dew being such a big factor, it’s a no-brainer that captains who win the toss will field first. “Guys talk about bowling first here. Once the dew sets in, conditions do change a bit. That’s been the strategy for most teams playing night cricket here in India. So, I think it’ll be pretty similar at the toss. We’ll decide to bowl first,” said Australian left-arm pacer Behrendorff, who has been the best bowler on either side so far.
Despite trailing in the series at the moment, the Aussies have wisely pulled out six of their World Cup-winning players after just three games. One of those six men is a certain match-winner in Maxwell, who just blasted a 48-ball 104 not out in Guwahati in the third T20I to help the visitors gain their first win of the series.
Australia’s squad now bears a weaker look, but Behrendorff said there was still a lot of T20 experience in this group, thanks to the Big Bash League and other T20 leagues around the world.

India, on the other hand, will be bolstered by the return of inform middle-order batter Shreyas Iyernamed as the vice-captain for the last two games, and reliable pacer Mukesh Kumarwho missed the last match due to his wedding. “Iyer’s presence will make a huge difference to our batting lineup. He enjoys a huge reputation in T20 cricket and was in good form in the World Cup,” Bishnoi said.
Coming off a highly successful World Cup, where he scored 530 runs in 11 games @ 66.25, Iyer is likely to replace Tilak Varmawho has managed to log just 50 runs in three games. All the other batsmen — Gaikwad, Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav and finisher Rinku Singh — have been in good form.

Indian National: India remains strategic partner; we take alleged assassination plot 'very seriously': White House official on US indictment | India News

WASHINGTON, DC: The White House National Security Council spokesperson, John Kirby, stressed on Friday that the US continues to improve its strategic partnership with India. On the other side, he added that the US “takes this very seriously,” referring to the indictment by the US Department of Justice against an Indian in an alleged foiled assassination plot.
While speaking at a press briefing, Kirby said, “India remains a strategic partnerand we are going to continue to work to improve and strengthen that strategic partnership with India.”
Referring to the US Justice Department indictment of an Indian national in an alleged foiled assassination plot in the US, Kirby added, “At the same time, we take this very seriously. These allegations and this investigation, we take very seriously.”
He further said that we are glad to see that India is also taking it seriously by announcing their “own efforts to investigate this.”
“We have been clear that we want to see anybody that’s responsible for these alleged crimes to be held properly accountable…,” Kirby stressed.
The US Department of Justice unsealed an indictment against an Indian national for his alleged involvement in a foiled plot to assassinate a US-based leader of the Sikh Separatist Movement and a citizen in New York.
The US Justice Department has claimed that an Indian government employee (named CC-1), who was not identified in the indictment filed in a federal court in Manhattan, recruited an Indian national named Nikhil Gupta to hire a hitman to allegedly carry out the assassination of the Sikh Separatist, which was foiled by US authorities.
The US Justice Department claimed that Gupta, is an associate of CC-1, and has described his involvement in international narcotics and weapons trafficking in his communications with CC-1. The indictment claims CC -1 directed the assassination plot from India.
Moreover, in a news briefing the MEA on Thursday said that a case filed against an individual in a US court and allegedly linking him to an Indian official is a “matter of concern” and is contrary to government policy.
“We cannot share any further information on such security matters. As regards the case against an individual that has been filed in a US court allegedly linking him to an Indian official, this is a matter of concern. We have said and let me reiterate that this is contrary to government policy,” MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.
“The nexus between organised crime, trafficking and gun running and extremists at an international level is a serious issue for law enforcement agencies and organisations to consider and it is precisely for that reason that a high-level committee has been constituted and we will obviously be guided by its results,” he added.

Crackdown in Gujarat as methanol-laced syrup kills 5 | Ahmedabad News

AHMEDABAD/RAJKOT: Rampantly sold herbal syrups mixed with methyl alcohol turned fatal for five people in Kheda district amid increasing evidence that these intoxicating bottles are being smuggled into ‘dry’ Gujarat from the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman and Punjab.

herbal syrups seized

In Kheda, police launched an investigation after the death of five men, aged between 25 and 30, on November 28 and 29 raised suspicion. The probe revealed they fell severely ill after consuming ‘Meghasav’ syrup sold for Rs 130 per bottle at a grocery shop in Bilodara village.
Kheda superintendent of police Rajesh Gadhiya said that grocery shop owner Kishore Sodha’s father Sankal had also consumed the syrup and methyl alcohol was found in his blood sample. “His health deteriorated and he has been put on dialysis in the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital,” said Gadhiya. Along with Sodha, police also detained one Yogesh Sindhi, who had unsuccessfully sought a licence to set up an ayurvedic syrup manufacturing unit, and two others.
In another related development, the Devbhumi Dwarka police raided a factory in Silvassa, the headquarters of D&NH, and unearthed a well-oiled racket of manufacturing and smuggling ayurvedic syrup mixed with isopropyl alcohol into Gujarat. The mastermind has turned out to be Sunil Kakkad of Ahmedabad, who was earlier booked by the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a Rs 700 crore financial scandal. On bail since 2021, Kakkad had set up a network of distributors and dealers to sell the bottles across the state.
Alcohol content of up to 86% found in syrups seized earlier
On Thursday, the Kutch police also carried out raids at several shops and seized 2,032 ayurvedic syrup bottles worth Rs 2.4 lakh over suspicion that they contained high quantities of alcohol.
Over the last few months, the Rajkot and Devbhumi Dwarka police have busted similar factories in Changodar near Ahmedabad and Punjab too.
Analysis of the contents in Changodar seizure re vealed that the syrups had alcohol content between 14% to 86% as against the 12% permissible limit in ayurvedic concoctions. In fact, the Food and Drug Control Authority (FDCA) had warned about the rampant sale of these syrups at unauthorized places and written to the director of prohibition requesting detailed checking.
Health minister Rushikesh Patel said that culprits who put the lives of people at risk by mixing hazardous chemicals in ayurvedic syrup will not be spared.

Gupta: No case against Gupta in records: Gujarat cops | India News

AHMEDABAD: After the US on Wednesday announced the filing of “murder-for-hire” charges against Indian national Nikhil Gupta for allegedly plotting to kill Khalistani separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in New York, the Gujarat Police on Thursday scanned their records to find if Gupta was involved in any offence, and said they did not find any case against him.
“We have inquired about the person named Nikhil Gupta and the prima facie inquiry did not find any case against him after I confirmed with all the four commissionerates in Gujarat. All the DCPs from the city confirmed that they did not know who Nikhil Gupta was,” said Gujarat DGP Vikas Sahay.
The US law enforcement authorities had alleged that Gupta, 52, agreed to the plot after being assured by the Indian government official directing him – whom they referred to as CC-1 – that a criminal case registered against him in Gujarat would be taken care of.
The Indian official later allegedly assured Gupta that “your Gujarat (case) has been taken care of” and “nobody will ever bother you again”. He further offered to arrange a meeting between Gupta and a “DCP” (Deputy Commissioner of Police), according to the federal authorities.
The indictment in the case said Gupta had described his involvement in international narcotics and weapons trafficking in his communications with CC-1 and others.
Sources in Gujarat Police said as of now they did not even find a suspicious person named Nikhil Gupta in any case related with arms or drugs smuggling or peddling.
