National Games: રાજકોટમાં નેશનલ ગેમ્સમાં સ્વિમિંગ કોમ્પિટિશનમાં આખરે ગુજરાતનું ખાતુ ખૂલ્યુ છે. ગુજરાતના સ્વિમર આર્યન નહેરાએ સ્વિમિંગમાં સિલ્વર મેડલ જીતી રાજ્યનું ગૌરવ વધાર્યુ છે. આર્યન નહેરા અમદાવાદના મ્યુનિસિપલ કોર્પોરેશનના કમિશનર રહી ચુકેલા વિજય નહેરાના પુત્ર છે.

નેશનલ ગેમ્સ(National Games)માં સ્વિમિંગ (Swimming) કોમ્પિટિશનમાં ગુજરાતની આતુરતાનો અંત આવ્યો છે. રાજકોટ (Rajkot)માં ચાલી રહેલી નેશનલ ગેમ્સમાં સ્વિમિંગ કોમ્પિટિશનમાં ગુજરાત મેડલની આશા રાખી રહ્યુ હતુ અને તે જ સમયે ગુજરાતના ખેલાડી આર્યન નેહરાએ સ્વિમિંગમાં સિલ્વર મેડલ જીતી ગુજરાતનું ગૌરવ વધાર્યુ છે. આપને જણાવી દઈએ કે આર્યન નહેરા અમદાવાદના મ્યુનિસિપલ કોર્પોરેશનના પૂર્વ કમિશનર વિજય નહેરાના પુત્ર છે. આર્યને સ્વિમિંગમાં સિલ્વર મેડલ મેળવતા ગુજરાતને નેશનલ ગેમ્સમાં બીજો સિલ્વર મેડલ પ્રાપ્ત થયો છે. અત્યાર સુધીમાં ગુજરાતે પાંચ ગોલ્ડ અને 6 બ્રોન્ઝ સાથે કુલ 13 મેડલ જીત્યા છે.
ભારતમાં તેની પ્રથમ સિનિયર ઈવેન્ટમાં ભાગ લઈ રહેલા આર્યન નેહરાએ 1500 મીટર ફ્રીસ્ટાઈલમાં ગુજરાતને સિલ્વર મેડલ અપાવ્યો હતો. ગોલ્ડ મેડલ મધ્યપ્રદેશના સ્વિમર અદ્વૈત પેજનાં ફાળે ગયો હતો. આર્યન 16:03.14ના સમય સાથે બીજા સ્થાને રહ્યો જ્યારે અદ્વૈત પુરુષોની 1500 મીટર ફ્રીસ્ટાઈલમાં 15:54.79નો સમય સાથે પ્રથમ ક્રમે રહ્યો હતો. કર્ણાટકનો અનિશ ગૌડા 16:05.94 સમય સાથે ત્રીજા સ્થાને રહ્યો હતો.
ભૂતપૂર્વ અમદાવાદ મ્યુનિસિપલ કમિશનરના પુત્ર, 18 વર્ષીય, રાષ્ટ્રીય રમતોની તૈયારી કરવા માટે ગુવાહાટીમાં સિનિયર નેશનલ સ્વિમિંગ ટુર્નામેન્ટમાં ભાગ લીધો ન હતો અને આજે સિલ્વર મેડલ સાથે તેણે પોતાની મહેનતને ચાર ચાંદ લગાવ્યા હતા. આ તરફ તેણે પેરુમાં વર્લ્ડ જુનિયર ચેમ્પિયનશિપમાં ભાગ લીધો હતો, જેનો અનુભવ તેને ઘરઆંગણે કામ આવ્યો હતો. આર્યન ફ્લોરિડામાં સ્વિમિંગમાં કરિયર બનાવવા વિશેષ તૈયારી કરી રહ્યો છે.
આર્યને સિલ્વર જીત્યા બાદ જણાવ્યું હતું કે “મને લીમા ખાતેની કોમ્પિટિશનમાં જ અહેસાસ થઈ ગયો હતો કે હજુ ઘણું કરવાનું બાકી છે. હું જ્યાં પોતાને લઈ જવા માંગતો હતો ત્યાં હું નહતો પહોંચી શક્યો. સમય ઓછો હતો, પરંતુ કામ ઘણું બાકી હતું જેને મેં ઝડપથી પૂર્ણ કર્યું અને આજે એ અનુભવ અને એ મહેનતના પગલે મને સિલ્વર મેડલ મળ્યો છે. મંગળવારે, તે લાંબા અંતરની ફાઈનલ પર ધ્યાન કેન્દ્રિત કરવા માટે 200m બટરફ્લાય હીટ્સમાં બહાર બેઠો અને તે નિર્ણય આજે મેડલમાં પરિણમ્યો છે.

BCCIએ પોતાના નિવેદનમાં કહ્યું કે બીસીસીઆઈની મેડિકલ ટીમે જસપ્રીત બુમરાહને આઈસીસી ટી20 વિશ્વકપ માટે ભારતીય ટીમમાંથી બહાર કરી દીધો છે. આ નિર્ણય ઉંડી તપાસ અને નિષ્ણાતોની સલાહ બાદ લેવામાં આવ્યો છે.
બુમરાહનો ઓપ્શન કોણ?
આ પહેલા બુમરાહ સાઉથ આફ્રિકા સામે રમાયેલી 3 મેચની ટી-20 સિરિઝમાંથી બહાર થયો હતો. આ સિરિઝની બે મેચ યોજાઈ ચૂકી છે અને બંને મેચમાં બુમરાહ ગ્રાઉન્ડ પર રમતો જોવા મળ્યો નથી. તેમની પીઠની ઈજાનું કારણ બહાર આવ્યું ત્યારે જ કહેવામાં આવી રહ્યું હતું કે તે વિશ્વ કપથી બહાર થઈ શકે છે. ત્યારે હવે સૌથી મોટો પ્રશ્ન એ છે કે ટીમમાં બુમરાહની જગ્યા કોણ લેશે. ત્યારે સૌ પ્રથમ નામ મોહમ્મદ શમીનું આવે છે. તેની પાસે બહોળો અનુભવ પણ છે અને તે વિશ્વ કપ માટે સ્ટેન્ડબાયમાં પણ છે. આ સિવાય મોહમ્મદ સિરાજ અને દીપક ચાહરનું નામ પણ ચર્ચામાં છે. ત્યારે આ મામલે હવે BCCI થોડા સમયમાં જાહેરાત કરશે.

મીડિયા રિપોર્ટ્સ અનુસાર, બુમરાહને સાજા થવામાં 4થી 6 મહિનાનો સમય લાગી શકે છે. બુમરાહ પહેલા પણ આ ઈજા સાથે સંઘર્ષ કરી ચુક્યો છે અને ફરી એકવાર તેના સ્ટ્રેસ ફ્રેક્ચરે ભારત માટે મુશ્કેલી ઊભી કરી છે. ભારતના સ્ટાર બોલરે ઓસ્ટ્રેલિયા સામેની ત્રણ મેચની T20I શ્રેણીમાં લાંબા આરામ બાદ પુનરાગમન કર્યું હતુ.

રસ્તા પર રખડતા ઢોરના ત્રાસ મુદ્દે હાઈકોર્ટના ચીફ જસ્ટિસની ખંડપીઠ સમક્ષ સોમવારે સુનાવણી થઈ હતી. આ સુનાવણી દરમિયાન, હાઈકોર્ટના ચીફજસ્ટિસની ખંડપીઠે નરોડા વિસ્તારમાં રસ્તા પર રખડતા ઢોરના હુમલાના લીધે શનિવારે બાઈક ચાલક ભાવિન પટેલના થયેલા મૃત્યુની ઘટનાની ગંભીર નોંધ લીધી હતી. હાઈકોર્ટે સરકારને ટકોર કરેલી કે આ દુર્ભાગ્યપૂર્ણ ઘટનામાં વળતર આપવા માટે તૈયાર રહો. આ અંગે રાજ્ય સરકાર જવાબ રજૂ કરે. હાઈકોર્ટની આ ટકોર બાદ, મદદનીશ સરકારી વકીલે બાહેંધરી આપેલી કે આ સંદર્ભે તેઓ સરકારને સુચિત કરશે. સરકારની રજૂઆત હતી કે, મુખ્ય સરકારી વકીલ અંગત કારણોસર ઉપલબ્ધ ન હોવાથી આ કેસની સુનાવણી હાલ મોકુફ રાખો. જે માગને હાઈકોર્ટે ગ્રાહ્ય રાખી છે અને આ કેસની વધુ સુનાવણી છ ઓક્ટોબરે રાખી છે.
સુનાવણી દરમિયાન, જીએચએએ વતી રજૂઆત કરનાર સિનિયર કાઉન્સિલે ફરી એકવાર રજૂઆત કરેલી કે રસ્તા પર રખડતા ઢોરના ત્રાસના લીધે મૃત્યુ પામતા વ્યકિતના પરિવારને વળતર ચુકવવુ જોઈએ. આ અંગે સંયુક્ત જવાબદારી નક્કી કરવી જોઈએ. આ સમયે, હાઈકોર્ટે ટકોર કરેલી કે તે આ બાબત અંગે સહમત છે. મહત્વનુ છે કે, રખડતા ઢોરના ત્રાસના નિવારવા માટે રાજ્ય સરકારે ગૃહમાં કાયદો પસાર કરેલો. જો કે, રાજ્યપાલે આ કાયદાને મંજૂરી આપી ન હતી અને તેને પરત મોકલ્યો હતો. બીજી તરફ, પશુપાલકોએ પણ આ કાયદાનો વિરોધ કરેલો.
રખડતા ઢોરના ત્રાસના મુદ્દે, ભૂતકાળમાં હાઈકોર્ટના નિર્દેશ બાદ, ગુજરાત સ્ટેટ લિગલ સર્વિસ ઓથોરિટી (GSLSA)એ રિપોર્ટ રજૂ કરેલો કે, અમદાવાદ શહેરમાં તમામ સાતેય ઝોનમાં મોટા ભાગના રસ્તાઓ પર રખડતા ઢોરનો ત્રાસ અવિરતપણે જોવા મળી રહ્યો છે. જે લોકોની સુરક્ષા અને આરોગ્ય માટે ભારે જોખમી છે. આ રિપોર્ટે એએમસીના પોકળ દાવાની હવા કાઢી નાખેલી. આ બાબતે જાહેરહિતની અરજી કરનારે ભૂતકાળમાં રજૂઆત કરેલી કે, આ પ્રશ્નથી સમગ્ર રાજ્યના લોકો પરેશાન છે.
Durga puja festivities are back in full vigour in various cities and towns of Odisha, after a two-year hiatus triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic. From decorations to stalls, set up at theme-based pandals across the state are giving a tinge of Bengali tradition to the festive spirit.
In the state capital, Bhubaneswar, various puja committees in different localities have devised innovative- theme-based pandals and idols to attract the public.
This year, organizers in Bhubaneshwar’s Saheed Nagar have adopted the theme of Ram Temple in Ayodhya for their pandal. This Ram Mandir-themed pandal designed by skilled artists from Cuttack and Kolkata has been pulling a huge crowd, who are rejoicing the festivities after two years.

“We are elated to enjoy the puja festivities after two years. This year we are celebrating Durga puja with great joy and praying goddess Durga for prosperity and welfare of the society” said a devotee in Bhubaneswar.
Grand puja pandals with gigantic gates and huge tableaus have also been set at Jharpada, Palasuni, Rasulgarh, Nayapalli, Baramunda, Laxmisagar and the Unit-I area of Bhubaneswar.
In Cuttack, as many as 28 committees are set to have ‘Chandi Medha’ (silver tableau) this Durga puja.
The College Square puja Committee has decorated its pandal backdrop with silver filigree work. As per the organisers, 3.5 quintal silver worth Rs 2.5 crore has been used for decorating the tableau.

From Mahesmati Manson of Bahubali movie to Amarnath cave, puja associations in Cuttack have also erected impressive facades, giving pandal hoppers memorable experiences of celebration.
While the Badambadi puja committee has erected a huge ‘Torana’ in the shape of Mahesmati Manson, the Khannagar Durga puja committee has opted for an Amarnath cave-like structure for their pandal.

“This time, a Torana of Amarnath cave-like structure has been erected. A light and sound show will be organised at the gate for the first time in Odisha,” according to a member of the Khannagar Durga puja committee.

આ વાત ઓસ્ટ્રેલિયાની છે. અહીં કેટલાક લોકોએ મળીને એક બકરી ખરીદી, જેની કિંમત હતી 2 કરોડ રુપિયા. આ બકરી એલીટ ઓસ્ટ્રેલિયન વ્હાઈટ સિંડિકેટના 4 લોકોએ મળીને 2 કરોડ જેવી રકમમાં ખરીદી છે. આ બકરીના માલિકને આ કિંમત વિશે પહેલીવારમાં ભરોસો જ ન થયો. તેના માલિકે જણાવ્યુ કે તેને આશા ન હતી કે આ બકરીની આટલી કિંમત મળશે.
આ છે બકરીની ખાસિયત
સૌ કોઈ આ બકરીની કિંમત જાણીને તેની ખાસિયત વિશે જાણવા આતુર થઈ રહ્યા છે. જણાવી દઈએ કે આ બકરી એક ખાસ પ્રજાતિની બકરી છે. આવી બકરીની માંગ ખુબ વધારે હોય છે. તે બકરીમાં જોવા મળતા મોટા ફર બાકી બકરીઓમાં ઓછા જોવા મળે છે. આ ખાસ પ્રજાતિની બકરીનો ઉપોયગ મીટ માટે કરવામાં આવે છે. તેનો ઉપયોગ બાકીની બકરીની પ્રજાતિઓમાં સુધારો લાવવા પણ થઈ શકે છે.

ઓસ્ટ્રેલિયાના સેન્ટ્રલ ન્યૂ સાઉથ સેલમાં વેચાયેલી આ બકરીએ ગયા વર્ષનો રેકોર્ડ તોડી નાખ્યો છે. વર્ષ 2021માં એક બકરી લગભગ 1.35 કરોડમાં વેચાઈ હતી. આ આંકડા એ વાતની સાબિતી આપે છે. ઓસ્ટ્રેલિયામાં બકરી ઉછેરનો ધંધો કેટલો વધારે છે. એક અધિકારીએ મીડિયા સાથેની વાતચીતમાં જણાવ્યુ કે જે બકરીના શરીરમાં ઓછા ફર હોય છે. તે ઓસ્ટ્રેલિયન વાતાવરણમાં બિલકુલ સારા હોય છે. આ પ્રજાતિની બકરીનું ધ્યાન રાખવુ ખુબ સરળ હોય છે. તેમનો વિકાસ બાકીની બકરીઓ કરતા વધારે ઝડપી અને પ્રમાણમાં સારો થાય છે. આ બકરીના ખરીદારો એ જણાવ્યુ છે કે ગિલમોરની આ બકરીના જેનેટિક્સનો ઉપયોગ કરીને બાકીની બકરીની જાતિઓને સુધારવામાં મદદ મળશે. આ કામ માટે આવનારા સમયમાં આ કિંમત કરતા વધારે કિંમતમાં પણ બકરીઓ વેચાઈ શકે છે.
Amid a hectic week when Nimrat Kaur had started shooting for her next film in Pune, she took time off and flew to Patiala for an emotional homecoming at her late father Maj Bhupender Singh’s regiment. Accompanied by her mother and sister, the The Lunchbox actress was invited by her father’s parent unit, 64 Assault Engineer Regiment for the installation of his bronze bust in Heritage Hall, to honour his contribution and sacrifice for the country. Maj Singh was martyred on January 23, 1994 after being kidnapped by terrorists in Kashmir, and was awarded the Shaurya Chakra posthumously for his act of valour at refusing to yield to the demands of the militant outfit.
“It was the Raising Day of my father’s unit in Patiala, and they wanted to install a bronze statue, his bust, in Heritage Hall,” said Nimrat, adding, “We as a family are so grateful to the Army for this special gesture for my father’s memory. I have come back to some very nostalgic and warm memories of my time spent in my father’s unit in Patiala as a child. Patiala was the last city where we stayed together as a family before my father was martyred.”
Nimrat’s father served two tenures in Patiala, one when she was an infant and the other when she was between 9 and 11 years of age. Incidentally, the family lived in the same house on both the tenures. “While coming back to this significant occasion of my father’s bust installation was emotional, I also met people from his unit who held me in their arms as an infant and had met me again when we returned to Patiala when I was 9,” she said.
Nimrat also has fond memories of her school, the iconic Yadavindra Public School, YPS Patiala. In her two-day stay in the city, she took time to visit her school with her sister, Rubina. “I have returned to my school in Patiala after 28 years. I met the principal and saw the classrooms where I used to sit, and it all came back like a flood of memories. My first trek in life was from YPS, Patiala. The school has invited me back for their sports day when it completes 75 years next year. I am hoping to be able to make it then,” she said.
While the city has changed in concrete since she last stayed here, Nimrat says in her mind it was like going back as a child. “I felt like the little girl I was at 11, running through the cantonment roads with friends, riding the school bus, and the warmth of a complete family with my father, mother and sister,” she wrapped up.

In what comes as a major blow to Team India, ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The news comes a week prior to the commencement of the showpiece event Down Under. On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released an official statement to confirm the development.
“The BCCI Medical team has ruled out Team India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad. The decision was taken following a detailed assessment and in consultation with the specialists,” the statemmet read.
“Bumrah, was initially ruled out from the ongoing Mastercard 3-match T20I series against South Africa due to a back injury,” it added.
The Indian cricket board also stated that it will be naming a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah in the squad for the marquee tournament soon.
After playing the last two games just-concluded series against Australia, Bumrahdidn’t travel with the team to Thiruvananthapuram for the opening tie against South Africa. Despite being given adequate rest from the management, Bumrah’s injury comes as a huge setback for the team’s medical team as far as handling his workload is concerned.
The back pain isn’t new for Bumrah as earlier on August 8, he was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 due to the same reason. He underwent rehabilitation work at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru before being deemed fit for the white-ball home series against Australia and South Africa.
Earlier this year, he was given rest for the home series against South Africa in June and the Ireland tour. Furthermore, he was also not included in West Indies T20Is after which he was ruled out of the continental tournament in the UAE.

DAP ખાતરનો વધુ જથ્થો ફાળવવા માટે ધારાસભ્યએ કૃષિમંત્રી રાઘવજી પટેલને રજૂઆત કરી છે. ખેડૂતોની માગ સામે ખાતરનો જથ્થો પૂરતા પ્રમાણમાં મળતો નથી તેવું ધારાસભ્યનું કહેવું છે. મહત્વપૂર્ણ છે કે હાલમાં શિયાળુ વાવેતર માટે DAP ખાતરની તાતી જરૂરિયાત છે. તેવા સમયે DAPખાતરનો જથ્થો પૂરતા પ્રમાણમાં ન મળતા ખેડૂતો હેરાન પરેશાન થઈ રહ્યા છે. જેને લઈને ધારાસભ્યએ કૃષિપ્રધાનને રજૂઆત કરી છે.

કિરીટ પટેલે જણાવ્યુ છે કે હાલ સમગ્ર ગુજરાતમાં રાયડાના વાવેતરની સિઝન ચાલુ છે. ઉત્તર ગુજરાતમાં પણ રાયડાનું મોટા પ્રમાણમાં વાવેતર કરવામાં આવે છે. એરંડાની અંદર પણ DAP ખાતર આપવુ જરૂરી છે. પરંતુ ઉત્તર ગુજરાતના ખેડૂતોને છેલ્લા 10 દિવસથી DAP ખાતર મળતુ નથી. ખેડૂતો વારંવાર ધક્કા ખાય છે. ખાતર ન મળે તો ખેડૂતોને પાકમાં મોટી નુકસાની જાય તેમ છે. વાવેતર કર્યા બાદ ખાતર મળે તો તેનો કોઈ અર્થ રહેતો નથી. વધુમાં કિરીટ પટેલે જણાવ્યુ કે આ અંગે કૃષિ મંત્રીને પત્ર લખી જાણ કરી છે કે તાત્કાલિક ધોરણે ઉત્તર ગુજરાતના ખેડૂતોને રાયડાના વાવેતર માટે અને એરંડા માટે DAP ખાતર મળવુ જોઈએ. તેમણે વધુમાં ઉમેર્યુ કે એકતરફ સરકાર ખેડૂતોના હિતની વાત કરી રહી છે, ત્યારે દર વખતે સિઝન સમયે જ ખેડૂતોને પૂરતા પ્રમાણમાં ખાતર મળતુ નથી.

ગુજરાતમાં (Gujarat)કોરોનાના (Corona) કેસમાં સતત ઘટાડો થઈ રહ્યો છે. જેમાં આજે 3 ઓક્ટોબરના રોજ કોરોનાના નવા 62 કેસ નોંધાયા છે. જેમાં કોરોનાના એક્ટિવ કેસની સંખ્યા 779 થઈ છે. કોરોનાના રિકવરી રેટ 99.07 ટકા થયો છે. જ્યારે આજે કોરોનાથી 190 દર્દીઓ સાજા થયા છે. જ્યારે કોરોનાના નવા નોંધાયેલા કોરોનાના કેસની વાત કરીએ તો અમદાવાદમાં 23 , સુરતમાં 16, સુરત જિલ્લામાં 8, વડોદરમાં 5, રાજકોટમાં 2, ભાવનગરમાં 1, ગીર સોમનાથમાં 1, જુનાગઢમાં 1, કચ્છમાં 1, નવસારીમાં 1, પંચમહાલમાં 1, સાબરકાંઠામાં 1, વલસાડમાં 1 કેસ નોંધાયા છે.
જ્યારે ગુજરાતના અન્ય જિલ્લામાં આજે એક પણ કોરોના કેસ નોંધાયો નથી. જેના કારણે તંત્ર એ આજે રાહતનો શ્વાસ લીધો હતો. કોરોના મહામારીમાંથી ભારતને બહાર લાવવા માટે તંત્રના તમામ અધિકારીઓ અને કર્માચારીઓએ અગત્યનો ભાગ ભજવ્યો છે. આજે ગુજરાતમાં કોરોનાને કારણે એક પણ મૃત્યુ નોંધાયુ નથી. એકટિવ કેસોમાં 5 દર્દી વેન્ટિલેટર પર છે, જ્યારે 774 દર્દીઓની સ્થિતિ હાલ સ્ટેબલ છે.
શાળાઓમાં બાળકો માટે માસ્ક ફરજિયાત
કોરોનાના કેસ વધવાની સાથે રાજ્ય સરકારની ચિંતા પણ વધારો થયો છે. તેમજ રાજ્યના અનેક જિલ્લાઓમાં કોરોનાના કેસોમાં ઝડપી વધારો થઈ રહ્યો છે. જેમાં અમદાવાદ શહેરમાં રાજ્યના સૌથી વધારે કેસ નોંધાય રહ્યા છે. જેના પગલે હાઈકોર્ટ દ્વારા અત્યારથી જ કોરોનાના વધતાં કેસના પગલે સાવચેતી શરૂ કરી છે. તેમજ લોકોના પ્રવેશ પર પ્રતિબંધ મૂક્યો છે. તેમજ શાળાઓમાં પણ બાળકો માટે માસ્ક ફરજિયાત કરવા પણ જણાવ્યું છે.
નવરાત્રી અને દિવાળી જેવા તહેવારોમાં સાચવજો
નવરાત્રીની હાલ ધૂમધામથી ઉજવણી થઈ રહી છે. તે બધા વચ્ચે નવરાત્રીના આયોજનમાં ભીડ જમા થઈ શકે છે. જેના કારણે કોરોના સંક્રમણમાં પણ વધારો થઈ શકે છે. તેથી તહેવારો દરમિયાન કોરોના નિયમોનું પાલન કરી, સાવચેત રહેવાની જરુર છે. આવનારા સમયમાં દિવાળીનો તહેવાર પણ આવી રહ્યો છે. તેમાં પણ તમામ પ્રકારની સાવધાની રાખવી જરુરી છે.
નિયમોનું પાલન કરો
કોરોનાથી બચવા કોરોના નિયમોનું પાલન કરવું પણ એટલું જરુરી છે. તેની મદદથી જ ભારત કોરોના મહામારીમાંથી બહાર નીકળવામાં સફળ થયું છે. સરકારે લોકોને વેક્સીન લેવા માટે પણ વિંનતી કરી છે. જેથી કોરોનાને ઝડપથી નાબૂદ કરી શકાય. તેના માટે આખા ગુજરાતમાં વેક્સીનેશન સેન્ટર આજદિન સુધી કાર્યરત છે.

Phone Bhoot marks Kartina’s first film after her marriage. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Ravi Shankaran and Jasvinder Singh Bath, Phone Bhoot is produced by Excel Entertainment, headed by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar. The film is all set to be released on 4th November 2022.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his ministers of showing “utter disregard” towards the commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi and former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries on October 2.
In a letter, the LG said neither Kejriwal nor his ministers were present at Raj Ghat and Vijay Ghat, memorials to Gandhi and Shastri, even as President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and representatives of foreign missions in India among others were there to pay homage.

Apple began assembling iPhone 14 phones in India last week—the first time it’s doing so within months of the launch of a new model. The move is part of the company’s plans to diversify production, a process quickened by prolonged lockdowns in Chinese cities and tensions between Washington and Beijing. While analysts hope this will strengthen India’s position as a supplier for the premium smartphone, they also say the process will take time as it has infrastructural challenges and China has a crucial head start. Mint explains in five charts what it will take for India to compete with China’s strong position.
1. A long way
Surely, India is gaining from China’s loss. Taiwanese electronics suppliers in India—Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron—are seeking to ramp up their production of made-in-India iPhones. Indian conglomerates such as the Tata Group and Vedanta are reportedly in talks for joint ventures to make iPhones in India. Google is also reportedly seeking to move some of its production of Pixel phones to India.
The country’s large labour force and low labour costs are making it a desirable location outside China, said global brokerage JP Morgan in a report dated 21 September. However, data shows that India has a long way to go before it can claim the title of a global iPhone manufacturing hub. According to JP Morgan estimates, about 25% of total iPhone manufacturing capacity will be from India by 2025, up from 6% in 2022. While these estimates appear to be encouraging for India’s industry, the country will still fall far short of China’s 75% contribution.
2. Chinese supremacy
India and Vietnam, which are far behind China at the second and third spots in terms of global smartphone production, stand to benefit the most from Apple’s reconfiguration plan, suggests a report by Counterpoint Research. However, certain realities are not going to change soon. China has invested heavily in strengthening local supply chains in the electronics industry over the years, and the sector has become a key driver in helping its economy grow at an extraordinary pace and establishing the country as the world’s manufacturing powerhouse. As Apple leads the premium mobile phone segment globally (with a 57% sales share in the June quarter), China also reaps large profits by being the iPhone hub.
Moreover, the companies that dominate India’s smartphone market are majorly Chinese, and Apple’s market share in India is incredibly low (4%) when compared with China (23%). The incentive for Apple to keep its base in China is much greater.
3. Business competitiveness
Despite its apparent weakness compared with China, India’s overall phone manufacturing sector is well-positioned to improve its competitiveness against other Asian destinations by virtue of its market. A favourable business environment combined with the ability to trade at lower costs helps make a market more attractive. India ranked 37th on the Institute for Management Development’s World Competitiveness Index in 2022, registering the best growth among Asian countries. In terms of “business efficiency”, a sub-criterion of the index, India ranked second among emerging markets, after China. Among all 63 countries that were part of the index, India ranked 23rd, gaining nine places. However, the gain was just six places since 2018, and the country was substantially below China’s 15th position.

4. PLI push?
Early this year, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the India Cellular and Electronics Association released a vision report to make electronics manufacturing a $300-billion industry by 2026. The plan relies heavily on a jump in mobile phones manufacturing to $120 billion from $30 billion, pushed by the production-linked incentives (PLI) scheme. But there are other realities to contend with, which again point to China’s supremacy. The PLI scheme is seen as a way to attract prominent tech players to make in India. However, last month, former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan argued that the scheme worked against the interests of Indian consumers, and said that while profitable exports were attracting manufacturers, Indian customers were bearing the brunt as they paid higher prices because of tariffs. A Counterpoint report also found that Chinese companies had gained in market share even though local firms that had availed of the PLI scheme lost market share between April-June 2021 and April-June 2022.
5. Price reality
Lastly, the fine print. Can an India-made iPhone save costs for Indian consumers? Apple has started assembling the iPhone 14 in India, but most of the handset’s components will still be imported attracting customs duties. This, coupled with high taxes, may keep the iPhone’s price exorbitant in India as was the case with older models assembled here, analysts feel.
China will still have a strong hold on high-end components and devices, supported by years of experience for Apple in that country. “For the China-plus-one strategy, India is possibly the most suitable candidate, but there’s a long way to go in terms of infrastructure and everything else,” said Navkendar Singh, associate vice president at market intelligence firm, IDC.
In the long run, India will hope that its efforts to reduce reliance on imports not only benefit the country’s thriving smartphone market but also bring down prices.
